A gift of another kind will give new hope to kids and their families in south Wichita.
On Monday, kids were actually told to play in the dirt to help break ground on a new daycare and pre-school facility in the Oaklawn area. The facility will be known as the Opportunity Project or "TOP".
The Opportunity Project will be a state of the art pre-school and daycare facility in Oaklawn to primarily serve children in need.
That area was picked because of its large population of children who are currently underserved by this kind of facility.
It's a private school funded primarily by the Downing Foundation, which donated $4.2 million to build the facility.
The Opportunity Project will also be a central place for other organizations, such as Butler County Community College and Wichita State to provide services in that area.
The Opportunity Project will take up five acres of land, and they hope to have kids in classrooms just after Labor Day of next year.
