One day before his trial, Kansas businessman and
onetime sports hero Dick Boushka today pleaded guilty
to defrauding a Wichita bank of 19 million dollars.
Boushka is the 68-year-old developer of shopping centers and a
racetrack. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in May on 60
counts.
In his deal with federal prosecutors, Boushka pleaded guilty to
two counts of bank fraud, one count each of making a false
statement to obtain a bank loan, and omission of information for
the sale of a security.
U-S District Judge Wesley Brown set sentencing for March third.
Prosecutors say Boushka falsified loan documents to defraud
American Bank, since sold to Hillcrest Bank. He was a member of the
gold medal 1956 Olympic basketball team.
