UPDATE: Thursday, June 14, 2012
A Wichita man continues to recover after an accident on the canal route.
Crews were called to the scene of a one-vehicle accident on Interstate-135 near the Pawnee exit around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Noah Reed, 30, was driving south on I-135, when his vehicle drove onto the right shoulder. Reed over-corrected, driving across all lanes of traffic. His car struck the barrier wall.
Reed was ejected into the canal, while the vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a tree.
Investigators said he was not wearing a seatbelt. Reed was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Authorities are looking into whether alcohol played a factor in the crash.

A man in his 30s has suffered critical injuries in a single-car accident, which closed a portion of southbound I-135.
It happened Wednesday evening around 6:45 p.m. near the Pawnee exit. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a Dodge Magnum lost control and crashed into the center barrier, ripping off the diver side door and ejecting the driver. The car came to rest after striking a tree on the grass shoulder west of the highway, but the man was found in the canal unconscious and with critical injuries. He was transported to Wesley Medical Center.
Beer cans were found inside the vehicle, but it is unknown if the victim was intoxicated. Speed may have also played a factor.
Traffic was diverted onto Harry while crews cleaned up the accident. Barrels were being put up along the damaged portion of the concrete barrier.
No other injuries have been reported.
