Two Andover sisters are dead after a crash on the north side of Emporia Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened about 3 p.m. near the Interstate 35 interchange with Merchant Street.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says a car driven by Jessica Lotz, 18, Andover was southbound on I-35 when it crossed the median and struck a northbound semi.
Lotz was taken to Newman Medical Center in Emporia. Her passengers, Kyle Moody, 18, and Holland Moody, 19, both of Andover, died.
The driver of the semi, Jimmy Cunningham, 48, Centralia, Mo., was not hurt. However, his passenger, Linda Cunningham, 44, Centralia, Mo., was injured and was taken to Newman Medical Center.
Michael Foulston worked with Kyle Moody at the Lakeside Dinner Club in Northeast Wichita.
"She was such a sweet young woman," Foulston said. "I know she was planning to go to K-State to study agriculture. It seemed she had a bright future."
A spokeswoman with the Andover school district said Holland graduated from Andover Central High School in 2011. Kyle graduated this last year. Lotz also graduated in 2011.
The district will provide a grief counselor for anyone who needs it on Thursday at the Andover Central High School counseling office.
