The City Of Wichita is spending more money to protect our water supply. City council members approve $325,000 for security improvements to the Water Treatment Plant. A yearlong study identified certain security risks at the plant. City officials won't give any details on the new improvements, but assure they're doing everything they can to protect our water.

Water & Sewer Department Director David Warren says he thinks people in Wichita should feel confident that facilities are protected and should feel confident that they're going to make this a priority. This is the second time the department has received money for security improvements in the last year. Once these are finished, the department will look to see if any additional ones will need to be made.

Most of the nation's water plants have gone through security improvements since the 9/11 attacks. Several communities contacted Wichita water officials for their expertise.
