BTK Suspect's Poetry May Hurt Defense

May 8 - Just like BTK did for more than 30 years, BTK suspect Dennis Rader is apparently communicating. Now there are questions whether this could hurt Rader and and his defense team's strategy.

After Rader's arraignment last week his attorneys told reporters he is cooperating with them. But now after two poems believed to be written by Rader surfaced, many are wondering whether he is hurting his defense team.

Defense attorney Warner Eisenbise says he believes Rader is sabotaging the defense. The poem "Tis' Spring Out There" seems innocent enough, but there's a lot of speculation that Rader is more or less confessing in the poem "Black Friday."

Within days of Rader's arrest the prosecution filed a motion to screen all of his incoming and outgoing mail. However, these two poems were sent out by another inmate who struck up a relationship with Rader.

Eisenbise says the poetry can be used against Rader in court. He says, "They're certainly not protected in any manner by law and once the prosecution determines that they are the handwriting of BTK then they are absolutely admissible as evidence."

So, what is Rader trying to achieve through his poetry? Some legal experts feel it's a calculated move to use an insanity defense. Others believe it's just a way to feed his ego.
