A New Letter Arrives From the Jail Cell of Dennis Rader April 29 - "I was afraid so much as not sure what it would contain. And then once I saw the contents I realized it was more like a pen pal letter with a few little strange things thrown in."
The west coast woman KAKE News will call "Mable" says her pen pal is BTK suspect Dennis Rader. Mable says she she was so floored to have received this correspondence two weeks ago that a co-worker had to open Rader's reply to the letter she wrote because she says she was curious.
"I've never written to anyone that's in the position he's in. It was just something that I felt what did I have to lose."
Mable did not lose. She says she received four pages from Rader who writes about what he does every day in jail and his relationship with the church.
"He gets time to come out of his cell for exercise in the hallway. Basically spends most of his time reading or spending time with his pastor or the chaplain and writing letters."
On his 45th evening in the Sedgwick County Detention Facility, Rader thanks Mable for the letter and sincere thoughts and writes, "to receive any correspondence in the mail is a highlight or perk. Especially any Christian concerns others give are most welcomed toward love ones, family and others."
Another part of Mable's letter, published on catchbtk.com, shows just how intense Rader's church relationship is. He writes, "the pastor has helped me a lot as well as the detention chaplain."
"I was surprised to see the length of the letter when I did read it. And generally I just wanted to see his handwriting and get a sense of what his state of mind is right now."
Mable says Rader writes some things in his letter to her, she simply does not understand. But she would not say if she's writing Rader back to clear up those things.
