A young child is recovering after nearly drowning in a bathtub.

It happened inside an apartment complex in the 2700 block of E. 9th around 12 p.m. Wednesday.

Sgt. Chris McAuliffe, Wichita Police, said two brothers, 9-months and 18-months, were taking a bath together. The boys’ father walked away for a minute, and returned to find one of the children under water. Authorities said the father performed CPR to revive the child, then called 911 for help.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital with possible injuries. McAuliffe said it appears the boy will recover. The second child was not hurt.

McAuliffe said authorities do not know how long the child was under water. The case remains under investigation.
