While You Were Sleeping - Boeing Signs Deal With Abu Dhabi Company

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Before you head out the door, we like to catch you up with what happened while you were sleeping.

While much of Kansas slept, Boeing reportedly signed a 10-year deal with an Abu Dhabi company that will have that company building carbon composite components for Boeing airliners.

The composite materials will be for Boeing's 777 and 787 jetliners. The deal with Mubadala Aerospace strengthens the United Arab Emirates' push to become an aerospace hub. That company's work could be expanded to the more complicated production of vertical fin assemblies for the 787 Dreamliner.

Boeing says the deal is its first composites supply deal with the Arab world. Financial details are not being disclosed.

Happening closer to home while many were sleeping, residents of north Wichita, near 21st and Hillside, may have noticed a lot of sirens about 11:30 p.m. Monday.

That was the sound of fire trucks heading to a house fire in the 2100 block of North Volutsia. It turned out to be a relatively small fire and crews had it taken care of pretty quickly. Nobody was hurt.

If you notice emergency traffic in your neighborhood while you're trying to sleep, you can ask us about it on our Good Morning Kansas Facebook page and we'll look for an answer.
