Call Center Closing

Hundreds of Wichita workers won't have a job by the end of this summer. Nearly 600 workers at the Bank Of America call center got the news.

The call center in Wichita employes about 800 workers. A few jobs will remain, but 575 of those workers learned today they will lose their jobs by mid-August.

The Wichita center is a regional call center. They handle commercial and consumer accounts. They take calls throughout Kansas and the Midwest.

Bank Of America has 10-15 call centers like this throughout the Midwest.

The Kansas President of Bank Of America says the reason so many people are losing their jobs, all comes down to technology.

Bob Landers says more people are using the internet to do their banking, so they don't need to rely on call centers to get their questions answered.

In fact, business at call centers throughout the nation is down.

Some Bank Of America workers who are losing their jobs told KAKE News they will be getting some type of severance package.
