Sedgwick County investigators say 28-year-old Carson Shotton was killed early Saturday morning in Kechi after a woman ran him over with a car. Sheriff's officials tell us they are still investigating and so far no arrests have been made. They say once they finish their investigation, it will be up to the District Attorney to decide if there will be any criminal charges.
Cindy George lives next door to the victim Carson Shotton, and tells us he and a woman moved in there a little over a year ago.
'He was always very nice, helped me take my trash dumpsters out and did things like that and carried groceries out to the walk,” George said.
George says the couple and their two small children had always been pretty quiet next door neighbors.
“There's never any noise, they don't scream, yell, cuss, any of that,” George said.
So she says she knew something was wrong early Saturday morning, when she heard their door slam.
“Then I heard the car start, but it was kind of weird though because it sounded like she was driving with her foot on the brake,” George said.
Marilyn Penner lives a few houses down and says she heard the same noise outside on the street.
“I was in the living room and kind of dozing off and I heard screeching of brakes and then stopping and then screeching of breaks and it did that several times and I wondered what was going on,” Penner said.
Penner says the car eventually stopped and then she heard someone's voice.
“So I came and looked out the window and I saw a car stopped down here and saw someone standing outside of the car so I came and stepped outside the house and I heard her screaming 'Oh my God, oh my God, he's under the car,'" Penner said.
Sedgwick county investigators say the woman driving the car called 911 and told them she had run someone over. When emergency crews got there, they found Carson Shotton underneath the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff's officials tell us they brought the woman in for questioning but have since released her. They say she still remains a suspect in the case.
“We think there might be some criminal charges that might be coming out of this,” Major Michael Oliver with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said.

Kechi police and the Sedgwick County sheriff are investigating the death of a man who they say was run over by a woman. The incident was reported shortly before 2:00 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 400 block of West Cherokee Drive in Kechi.
Sedgwick County Sheriff Major Mike Oliver says investigators are working to piece together what happened.
"As the event started unfolding, it was determined that this may not entirely be an accident," said Oliver. "There might be some criminal charges coming out of this."
Neighbors say the couple had lived together in the home for more than a year and had two children together. Officials say they don't believe the children, who are both under the age of 2, saw what happened.
The victim is identified as Carson E. Shotton, 28, of Kechi. The woman's name has not been released and she has not been arrested at this time. Investigators say she is currently being questioned by Sedgwick County sheriff officers.
