Great Bend police say a person of interest has been located in the Dolly Madison double murder case.

Police released an enhanced surveillance photo in late November, hoping to trigger new tips from the September 4, 2002 crime.

Mandi Alexander, 24, and Mary Drake, 79, were stabbed to death inside the Dolly Madison store in Great Bend.

Police say the photo triggered numerous tips to Crime Stoppers and the Kansas Crime Line. But it was actually the person seen in the image that called police, from out of state. He admitted to being the person seen on videotape, but claims he didn't committ the crime.

Great Bend police and KBI agents interviewed the man, who they say is cooperating fully. He is not considered a suspect at this point.

Police say the man is now in a pool of 600+ persons of interest.

The surveillance image, taken from a nearby business, had been in their possession since the crime but it has taken until just recently before they were able to enhance the video well enough to make out the man.

There is still a $17,000 reward for info leading to an arrest.
