A Kansas doctor awaiting trial has filed a complaint with Butler County jailers about conditions he has faced while in custody.

Doctor Stephen Schneider told his family in a letter that his phone privileges were taken away and that he was sent to isolation for no reason. Both of these events happened moments after Linda Schneider agreed to do an interview with KAKE News over the phone last week.

Schneider and his wife face a 34-count federal indictment on conspiracy and other charges. They are accused of being responsible for at least four drug-overdose deaths of patients.

Schneider's relatives received his letter this weekend. They think the Haysville physician and his wife are being railroaded by federal prosecutors.

U.S. Marshals spokesman Logan Kline says the Schneiders are being treated the same as others in federal custody.

I think you guy's need to leave dr schneider alone he can not be over every person to make sure that they take there med the way they should and how many people go's out on the street and buy's them so he should not have to pay for what they do!!!!!! we are praying for you doc scneider

Johnson- Does it really make a difference who is charging the person, Federal, State or City- does it really matter what kind of treatment they get while in custody. The law states:innocent until proven guilty" Not treat the person how YOU think they should be treated. Pain is pain and to those in pain, they understand how it can make your everyday life hard and if you have kids... it is just that much harder. I know that there are people who misuse medication, but there are some honest people who do need pain meds and can not get them thanks to the others. Is that fair.

As for Segwick County jail. There are some decent officers working there, but you have some real jerks that are on a power trip and should be repremended for their unprofessional behavior in the workplace. How come people don't take pride in their jobs these days? It's sad, but true. No one deserves to be treated badly regardless, especially when they've only been charged...not convicted. They claim they treat everyone the same, if this is so...then they must treat everyone in jail like dirt. Maybe some officers need an attitude adjustment and a life!

It is the responsibility of the patient to take their prescribed medication as directed. The pharmicist always meets with the patient to go over these directions on any type of pain meds. I believe such issues should be left out of the hands of their doctor from the point they pick up their prescriptions. If a family member has concerns; then he/she should make the effort to consult with the patients doctor, but don't place blame on the doctors for a patients drug overdose. That's pure ignorance on the part of the patient.

michelle YOu make it sound has if he has no control over how the patient takes the pain killers. But Alas he does. When they are going thru them like candy and he is not monitoring it then he becomes guilty

as a pharm tech i saw some of this drs patients. i could tell they were abusers of pain meds why couldn't he.

The Doctor didn't have any trainig as a pain specialist. He was a D.O. He was giving to much meds all at once. Didn't know what he was doing except make money.

There is more to the story than people taking medicine incorrectly. It's giving them too much, and inappropriately. It's many other things than just people accidentally overdosing. Read the indictment closely. Schneiders are in Federal custody. BTK in state custody. that is the difference for the treatment evidently. Obey the rules, which the Schneiders evidently didn't do.

Thats what any other Dr. should do,but with the Federal Governments need for control many are afraid to do their jobs.To those casting stones please go to the Pain Relief Networks website.Do you really want to live in a country where pain patients are left to suffer?This patient could one day be you or a loved one.

I think that they are not being treated fairly. I know someone in custody and that is not how they treat everyone and as a nurse i dont think they purpusely did anything wrong.I think they were just trying to help stop the pain for some. I have disabilities and understand pain. We are taught in the medical field to take care of our patients and i feel that what they thought they were doing. They did not tell the patients to abuse the med and over dose. They were just trying to ease their pain .What any other nurse or doctor would do .

I am not exactly "up to speed" on this story and I am not here to bash anyone, but I would like to say....is it his fault if people took their medication incorrectly? It is truly hard to get some pain medications even when you have an honest reason like brain surgery or something. People take pain meds just to get a "high" and it makes it hard for people who really truly need it. For that reason I support this doctor. He was helping people, it is NOT his fault if those people did not take their meds the way they were suppose to. Regardless, that doesn't make it okay to treat people like crap in jail...How are they treating mr. BTK? Doug Belt? Michelle Ash? Those people are killers,evil killers. Not people trying to help others in pain. Gosh people!
