A Liberal, Kansas, native says she is away from the violence in the African nation of Kenya, but hears about it everyday. Amy Thompson has been near the city of Nairobi for the past four months working with a community development organization. She says coworkers have told her stories of people being killed in the streets.
Violence has plagued the country ever since a controvesial presidential election led to allegations of corruption from political parties.
Hundreds have died, but Amy says she will stay and continue working. She has access to television, radio, and a vehicle; things most do not have. An evacuation plan is also in place if things get dangerous in her area.
