Two people have been injured in a train collision in south Sedgwick County. It happened in the 10,000 block of south K-15, which is south of Derby. The wreck happened about 1/2 mile south of 95th St. S.
A train was heading southbound and was exiting onto a sidetrack when a northbound train struck the midsection of the first train. Both trains were travelling slowly, so only two cars derailed.
Initially crews believed some cars may have been carrying hazardous materials, but there were none and no leaks of any kind. During that time K-15 was shut down, but it has since re-opened.
Two people in the northbound train were taken to the hospital. According to a Via Christi spokesperson, a female victim is listed in critical condition. Details on the other patient are unknown.
