Residents at one Wichita apartment complex are raising a “stink” with complaints of raw sewage in some apartments. Apartment resident Christy Driver is disgusted and frustrated with sewage problems that started Friday night. “I had sewage water coming up in my tub and my toilet was overflowing.”
Driver tells KAKE that maintenance crews from the apartment complex arrived Saturday morning, said the problem was fixed, and left. By Sunday night Driver’s apartment, along with six others, had flooded again.
Health concerns associated with the sewage led the city to get involved. The issued a notice of a violation against the owners of Remington Park Apartments. The notice threatens criminal charges if the problem is not taken care of in eight days.
“Part of the notice says exactly that anything that was contaminated with the sewage must be cleaned, repaired, or replaced.” Explained Curt Schroeder with the City of Wichita. We watched that cleaning process begin Monday. Cleaning crews pulled up the soaked carpet, removed the pad, and then put the carpet back down. Driver say’s that’s not good enough, and she’s moving out.
The management office would not comment on the issue, but the city says that management is working with inspectors to get the problem resolved. The city inspector also strongly suggested that the residents who are living in the flooded apartments be relocated until the mess can be cleaned up.
