Last Friday night, it was a very common sight to see Hodgeman County running back Evan Kreger reach the end zone.
"The only thing going through my mind was to play hard every play and win the game," said Kreger in regards to his performance.
Kreger scored ten touchdowns, which is a state record for 8-man football. The feat also ties the national record.
"A big thanks to (my offensive line). They made every block," Kreger said. "They went to the whistle. That team shut down. After we kept pounding and pounding, they finally gave up," adds a modest Kreger, who totaled 361 yards from scrimmage in the 74-8 victory over Pawnee Heights.
"It's great to watch him run," says Tanner Schubert, one of Hodgeman County's offensive lineman. "He's so fast, and it's just amazing to see. It's easy to block for him because he's always right there."
Even more impressive, Kreger did all his damage in the first half. The 45-point mercy rule brought the game to a halt at halftime. So who knows what Kreger could have done in four quarters?
"I don't want to be selfish," notes Kreger. "It would have been a great accomplishment, but I'm just glad with the win."
The 165-pound senior showed he can score in all facets of the game. He added a punt return touchdown on special teams and a pick-six on defense.
Kreger and the Longhorns hope to continue their strong start on Friday night at Wakeeney.
