Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers rallied this afternoon in Old Town.

The union is in negotiations for new work contracts with both Cessna Aircraft Co. and Hawker Beechcraft Corp. Both negotiations are taking part in Old Town. Union leaders told people at the rally they are in a battle to protect their jobs from going not only to other countries but to other states.

The Hawker contract isn’t up until next year, but the labor agreement with Cessna expires Sept. 19.

Union spokesperson Bob Wood says Cessna has told the machinists it will present them its final offer on Monday.

Wood says there has been “little movement” from the previous proposal that included wage cuts, cost-sharing health benefits and the elimination of pensions.
