Area Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

The Pentagon said today a Harper, Kansas soldier was killed in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Vinson B. Adkinson III, 26, died from his wounds August 31st.

The Pentagon said Staff Sgt. Adkinson was one of four soldiers killed when their vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device in Logar Province, Afghanistan.

Adkinson grew up in Empire City, Oklahoma. The Associated Press reported Vinson Adkinson's friend, Chase Hutto, said Adkinson left Oklahoma when he was a junior in high school and graduated in 2003 after moving to Kansas. He then joined the military

He was assigned to the 173rd Brigade Support Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Bamberg, Germany.
