The trailer of a Peterbilt semi traveling westbound on 82nd Road west of US 77 was hit by a BNSF train traveling south on the tracks shortly before 9 this morning.

The driver of the semi told the Kansas Highway Patrol that he did not look before crossing the railroad track. He started across the tracks before hearing the train horn.

A warning sign is posted at the intersection, but there are no warning arms.

The truck was hauling steel beams and supports for the electrical substation being built for the new oil pipeline. The driver was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.

The train remains on tracks as BNSF conducts an inspection

The semi driver received a citation for failure to yield to a train.
