A 7-year-old boy has died after being struck by an SUV while crossing a street outside a northeast Kansas school.

The accident happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday outside
Madison Elementary School in Gardner. The Johnson County community
is located about 30 miles southwest of Kansas City, Mo.

KCTV-TV reports Gardner police identified the boy as Kade M. Meyer, a second-grader at the elementary school and son of a vice principal at Gardner-Edgerton High School.

Police said the boy came out from between two vehicles on the
roadside and was crossing the street when he was hit by the SUV. A
crosswalk with a guard is located at an intersection about 200 yards from where the child was crossing the road. Kade was taken to Olathe Medical Center, where he died.
