A Wichita woman returns home from volunteer work in Haiti for just one thing. She wants to sell nearly everything in her home so she can get back to Haiti.
She's selling her things in a garage sale that could stock a small house. That's because Angela Harvey is selling everything that was in her apartment, from the vacuum to the pots and pans.
Luxuries compared to living quarters she was helping with in Haiti.
"Some of the people had cloth sheets and sticks," Harvey recalls. " So we went ahead and went in with tarps to provide them with something a little better than what they had."
Harvey just returned to Wichita last week and immediately began setting up for the sale. She believes the need for volunteers in Haiti is just as important as the monetary donations. "Something she feels strongly about "A lot of people are sending money, but money only goes so far. You actually need people going over there and actually be willing to volunteer their time to help,"` Harvey says.
And so, as soon as she sells all or as many of her things as she can, Harvey hopes to go back to Haiti with $10,000 to start an orphanage to help children who are still living on the streets.
"The children of Haiti...they don't have running water, they don't have electricity. They are sleeping in a tent," Harvey adds. "But they have joy...nothing like I have ever seen before."
To help Harvey with a donation or to shop at her garage sale, stop by Haiti Garage Sale 2126 Shelton in North Wichita.
