WALTON, Kan. — Authorities have identified a Wichita man who died in a crash on Highway 50 in Harvey County yesterday.
The accident happened just after 2:30 Tuesday afternoon on Highway 50 east of the town of Walton.
According to the Harvey County Sheriff's Office, an Acura Integra was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line. The driver of a westbound Chevrolet pickup tried to avoid the oncoming car, but was hit on the rear passenger side. The truck swerved into the south ditch and overturned. The driver was trapped inside and pronounced dead at the scene.
He's been identified as 56-year-old Brian Kelly of Wichita. Kelly's 22-year-old son was able to crawl out through the rear window, and suffered minor injuries.
The 31-year-old woman from Wamego driving the Acura was not hurt. The Sheriff says driver reported that she may have fallen asleep, and other witnesses say she appeared to be looking down, at the time of the crash.
The accident is still under investigation.
