Police have identified the man who was killed in a crash in northwest Wichita yesterday.

The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Richard Baker. Tuesday, officers said Baker ran a red light on Meridian and hit a car trying to turn onto I-235. His van rolled onto its side, and he was pinned underneath. He was not wearing his seat belt and had been partially ejected.

The driver of the other car was not seriously hurt. This is the 23rd traffic fatality of the year for Wichita.

A man has been killed in an accident in northwest Wichita.

The crash happened around 3:15 Tuesday on Meridian north of the I-235/K-96 junction.

According to police, a northbound car had a green arrow and was turning onto the southbound I-235/K-96 ramp when a southbound Ford van ran the red light and collided with the car. The van tipped over and ejected the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt. He was pinned under the van until firefighters freed him, and pronounced dead at the scene.

The 80-year-old woman driving the other car was taken to an area hospital for observation, but is expected to recover.
