There are growing concerns about a health problem across Wichita: birds.

Or more specifically, the mess they leave when the come home to roost each night. With the cold winter weather, more birds are flocking downtown and the proof is in the calling cards their leaving behind.

Pedestrians in the government district downtown where it's difficult to avoid the bird mess. Every winter, starlings, crows and pigeons arrive in downtown Wichita.

You may not see them much during the day. that is because they are out in rural areas foraging for food. However, as night arrives, they return to the city lights.

Canadian geese have also been a problem for decades now. They leave behind big messes that can get on our feet and tracked everywhere.

The city is taking several measures to try to deal with the problem including loud air cannons and loud speakers broadcasting the sounds of predatory birds.
