NC Church Plans To Burn Bibles, Christian Books
  • Posted By: wowHe wants to burn everything that isn't the original text-wasn't that in hebrew! what a nutcase- that is the kind of people that give christians a bad rap-
  • Posted By: You know, you could tell these people that they are idiots, but they would probably take it as a compliment. People like that live in a world where down is up, evil is good, and flagrant stupidity is infinitely preferable to any kind of knowledge. They can stay there, as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully, their children will get a clue and come join us in the real world.

  • Posted By: "...but he who destroys a good book, kills Reason itself, kills the Image of God..."
  • Posted By: Books won't stay banned. They won't burn. Ideas won't go to jail. In the long run of history, the censor and the inquisitor have always lost. The only sure weapon against bad ideas is better ideas. The source of better ideas is wisdom. The surest path to wisdom is a liberal education.

  • Posted By: I just have to laugh at it all. The small minded nature of people, who can not see beyond the end of their nose, if that, is amazing. It's simply more proof of the power of stupidity in mass quantities.
  • Posted By: Goodness me; Why dont they take all the school books to while they at it, some people are just narrow minded! Oh well i guess its just a case of each to there own.
  • Posted By: If they really want to burn everything that isn't the word of God, they better burn the King James version too- it's nothing more than an interpretation of the original books ordered by a misogynistic, bigotted British king who wanted people to have HIS version of what the bible should be.
  • Posted By: Ok, they trippin, my upbringing was christian specifically baptist, but they trippin
  • Posted By: Whoa. The other day I passed a car with a bumper sticker that read: "If It ain't King James, it ain't the Bible!" I didn't realize it was still such a big deal!
  • Posted By: I'd love to see Pastor Overalls take an IQ test, I bet he'd score about 70.
  • Posted By: well they certainly have the spirit of halloween down. i can't think of anything more disturbing thing they could legally do.
  • Posted By: I'm so tired of people getting attention for doing stupid things. I'm also very tired of religion!
  • Posted By: If it is theirs, they can burn it. This is America. Lets not get the government involved or we may have another Waco Texas Massacre where they murdered all those people at their Mount Carmel "Retreat
  • Posted By: I think they should do the world a favor and stay home on Halloween night and watch The Village, in honor of all fear-mongering religious cults.
  • Posted By: I find the ASV and the NIV to be easier to understand than the original KJV. I don't understand the uproar. As long as nothing gets lost in translation, there shouldn't be anything wrong with reading a Bible that's easy to understand. This could be another Westboro if you ask me...
  • Posted By: This what religion does to your head. And next thing you will hear prom this preacher is"if you believe this book come die with me". The KJV was coppied and translated from the catholic latin version of the bible. Done by order by King James so even english speakers could read it. The original is not even latin. Christ didn't come here to bring religion but salvation. He didn't say go to a certain religion and you're okey. What a flip preacher.
  • Posted By: So... I wonder who the fundamentalist baptists were at the last supper.
  • Posted By: The hilarious thing is that this church event, involving FIRE is taking place on Halloween. Youd think people this afraid of books would also be too afraid to be outside on a night supposedly belonging to their nemesis. It really is a shame, once they burn those books, all of that information will be lost too bad there isnt some new fangled machine that can make more books once old books are destroyed.
  • Posted By: They should give all those "heretical" bibles to pastors and churches in China. Amazing how arrogant Christians can be...
  • Posted By: This is crazy! Burning bibles is something SATAN would do!!! The bible is God's word, no matter what version it is.
  • Posted By: Is he referring to the 1611 KJ or the revised version. I havent seen anyone yet hauling around a bunch of scrolls to have the exact version.....doesnt he know that it was translated into greek then translated more later to come up with what he calls the original. Main Point - DONT TRUST PREACHERS IN OVERALLS!
  • Posted By: The only issue I have with the NIV is that it leaves out a verse or two, which it should not, as the book of Revelation speaks against doing such. However, I'm by no means a crazy fundamentalist who thinks the version should be burned or never read.
  • Posted By: I believe in free speech but these people are idiots.
  • Posted By: what a kook - no wonder people question whether Christianity is for real. Sad that this guy gets news about what he's against - Jesus gave words on what he was for - love for people and love for the WORD of GOD - which KJV version are you talking about there 7 different ones.... The 1611 - you can't even read it in old English... the BBQ chicken is a nice idea- let's burn books of godly men who love the Lord and eat fried chicken - unreal...
  • Posted By: These guys don't like finding out that King James was a flamboyant homosexual who by many accounts also practiced bestiality, either. Most of America's Founding Fathers, and the vast majority of the Protestant church at that time used the Geneva Bible translation as it is far superior. The KJV was a government publication by the government church under the direction of a depraved monarch who desperately wanted to preserve the divine right of kings
  • Posted By: This is no joke. This man is leading his congregation down a dangerous path. If you are a Christian and you know any of his followers, please, please warn them. Also, pray for them and their leader.
  • Posted By: i can tell you that them mountain folk scare me. i used to be a land surveyor for a cell tower company and always hated whenever i had to deal with any of the locals. asheville is not far away and it is a great place to visit. just don`t wander off where you have no business.
  • Posted By: Fourteen whole members of this church, oh my! They are so relevant! *eyeroll* I'm not really even sure how this made the news, but if inbred religious bumpkins want to burn a few Bibles, more power to 'em. I think the rest of us out here in the world of the sane can safely ignore this handful of loons. They don't seem anywhere near as obnoxious as Fred Phelps' clan.
  • Posted By: ...I would like to submit a few questions for anyone belonging to this church or any other like it: 1. Do you honestly believe "Jesus" (as your choice of translation calls him) spoke the English language as it was known during Shakespeare's time? 2. Is a bible printed in any language other than English also on your black list? 3. Are any of your church members capable of reading the scriptures in their pre-KJV form, if so, are those also blacklisted?
  • Posted By: King James was a homosexual. He wanted peace between the Anglicans, Puritans and the Roman Catholics and he gave orders to the translators to use ecclesiastical language (e.g. "church", "bishop", "deacon"). There are many errors in the KJV which the New KJV and others correct.
  • Posted By: Book burning on Halloween? Does'nt that just scream Demonic ? Next up, he may give his followers Kool-Aid or talk about the UFO behind the comet. I'm a christian but, this is religulous garbage.
  • Posted By: WHAT?! this is an outrage! Who are you to say what bible is true! if you wanna get technical you better go to the REAL true versions. the Hebrew old testament and the Greek new testament. GOD! it's people like this that give Christians a bad rep.
  • Posted By: Pray for these folks. They're so lost.
  • Posted By: for real, the majorty of christians i know haven't even read the stupid thing. and the people who have, are either agnostic or atheist.
  • Posted By: one word krazy
  • Posted By: rogeri hope you people are just kidding why would anybody want to burn books
  • Posted By: 3rd graderburn books they could just recycle them and have them made to be kjv bibles
  • Posted By: stevenCHURCHES OF WICHITA PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN THEY WANT THIS I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A CHURCH I LIKE HEAR IN WICHITA. MY CHURCH IN ALABAMA HAD SOMTHING LIKE THIS WE ALL COLLECTED BOOKS WE TOUGHT NEEDED BURNED AND ON HALLOWEEN WE BURNED THEM IN A BIG BBQ
  • Posted By: car dealerwould some church in wichita do this to it sounds like fun
  • Posted By: RememberI seem to recall some other zealots in history who had a thing for burning books. That didn't really end well. Do people never learn?
  • Posted By: when i was a kid growing up in texas i saw stuff like this all the time
  • Posted By: spongebobthe bible says have no king before me the have king james before everything and everybody
  • Posted By: leeI want to go to this.
  • Posted By: japianything that teaches something other than Jesus being our savior and thru his blood we will be saved. needs to be burned i would go to one if we had it.
  • Posted By: zackTo Adam in response to your argument, they don't make jews like JESUS any more! Your people were blinded a little over 2000 years ago. this is nothing bad just the way God intended for it to be. Shalom
  • Posted By: BBI WISH A CHURCH IN WICHITA HAD THIS KIND OF HELL FIRE
  • Posted By: do any churchs in kansas have anything like this i would tike to go to something like this
  • Posted By: "The earliest name for the first part of the Bible seems to have been "The Torah of Moses."
  • Posted By: adamno the torah is the first "bible" which translates from the word holy book the torah is the first 5 books sorry catholics and protestants we jews were here first and we ane the ones chosen by God
  • Posted By: ZackThe Catholic Bible the first & only true version of the scripture. Everything else came after. Sorry protestants ;-)
  • Posted By: We just got to have FAITH in God and the people he inspired to write his word. Alot of people have so many ideas of what to believe and what is true or false. We just got to beleive in God and he will show us what is true. It says it in all versions, He is the way the truth and light.
  • Posted By: The bible has been rewritten so many times I don't think anybody can say what the true version is. I think even the King James version is disputed on how it was rewritten also. Plus now you have a conservative group that wants to also rewrite the Bible to fit its view of being right.
