Children's Tamiflu in short supply

Stay up-to-date with KAKE News:

WICHITA, Kan. -- Tamiflu is prescribed within the first 48 hours of flu symptoms to help shorten the length of the illness. The liquid form is usually given to children or adults who can't swallow pills.

Dandurand Pharmacy in east Wichita says it doesn't have any of the liquid Tamiflu, but it can take the capsules and mix them to make the liquid form.

"The important thing is to stay hydrated," said pharmacist Ben Dandurand. "Tamiflu doesn't cure the flu. It does treat it, but it shouldn't be horrible that there's a shortage."

The manufacturer of the drug says it is working quickly to ship out more of the children's Tamiflu.
