The Kansas Health Policy Authority Board has appointed Andrew Allison as the agency's next executive director.
Allison has been serving as acting executive director since June 1. His appointment must be confirmed by the Kansas Senate.
The Health Policy Authority Board's vote to make Allison director came Wednesday near the close of its annual two-day strategic planning retreat.
Allison replaces Marcia Nielsen, who left to become a vice chancellor at the University of Kansas Medical Center, in Kansas City.
Allison, 42, began working at KHPA in December 2005 as the deputy director. He took on the additional role of state Medicaid director in November 2006.
Established in 2005, KHPA administers the state's public health insurance programs.
