Three people in Wichita have died of bacterial meningitis since January.
Health officials say a Wichita resident died in January, and two others died in February.
The Sedgwick County Health Department says only the January death was attributed to a contagious strain of the illness. The other two people, a man and a woman, died from a noncontagious strain.
The department says all people who came in contact with the person who died from the contagious variety have been treated and are healthy.
Symptoms of bacterial meningitis include fever, headache and stiff neck.
Earlier this month, two soldiers stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in mid-Missouri also died of bacterial meningitis.
