Wichita Clinic physicians in Newton are seeing patients with mono, strep throat, viral illnesses, sinusitis and Fifth disease. For sinusitis, most of the symptoms will resolve on their own and antibiotics don’t make much of a difference. Physicians recommend using over-the-counter medications and getting plenty of rest. It is important to stay well hydrated and take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for discomfort. See your physician if you have been sick for more than two weeks, have a persistent fever, have abnormal sinuses or other risk factors such as suppressed immune system or asthma. Symptoms of the fifth disease include flu, runny nose, sore throat, headache and rash. Treatment includes antibiotics, rest, drinking plenty of fluids and using over-the-counter pain relievers.
