KU Hospital Receives $20 Million Donation

Philanthropist Annette Bloch is donating $20 million to the University of Kansas Hospital's cancer program.

It's believed to be the largest individual gift ever to a hospital in the state of Kansas or the Kansas City area.

Bloch is the widow of Richard Bloch, a founder of Kansas City-based H&R Block Inc. His experience surviving cancer inspired the couple to establish the R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation in 1980. The foundation sponsors programs meant to help cancer patients learn about their options.

University of Kansas Hospital will rename its outpatient cancer area at its Westwood campus the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Care Pavillion. The name also will be on the radiation oncology building on the hospital's main campus in Kansas City, Kan.
