Baby Your Baby: Breastfeeding

Thursday, February 9, 2012

Breastfeeding is supposed to be a natural thing, but you can talk to many moms who disagree. Nursing can be a real challenge. KAKE’s Jemele Holopirek tells us about a new clinic to help moms with breastfeeding.

I remember having my first son, and it took days before I could get my son to eat. I thought I was starving him to death until, finally, we got it. Now that there’s a new clinic that just opened to help moms with breastfeeding.

The new WesleyCare Breastfeeding Clinic is located at Health Strategies and is staffed by Certified Lactation Consultants. It’s open Monday through Friday, and you don’t need to make an appointment. It’s free.

According to local Pediatrician Dr. Nancy Powers, breastfeeding can be difficult at first, but, with help, most moms and babies can do it successfully.

Dr. Powers says the benefits of breastfeeding include a better immune system for both mom and baby, even years after the baby is done breastfeeding.
