We know smoking is dangerous for our health, but in this Baby Your Baby, we take a look at secondhand smoke and the devastating effects it has on your little one.

As an adult, we get to choose if we smoke cigarettes or not. But children usually don't have the choice when it comes to being around secondhand smoke.

Dr. Mark Mosley from Wesley Medical Center says children are paying the price for their parents' bad habits. Secondhand smoke isn't just what you breathe in from someone else's cigarettes; it is also the residue on your clothes, furniture and bedding, called sidestream smoke. Kids who are exposed to secondhand smoke can face many health issues.

"A lot of concerns, SIDS goes up, asthma increases and hospitalizations if you smoke," Dr. Mosley says.

The Great American Smokeout is Nov. 17. If you would like to quit smoking and you're having a difficult time, contact your doctor for help. And if you would like more information about Wesley Medical Center's family education classes, click on Find It.
