We know that breast-feeding is a healthy way to feed newborn babies. Now a local hospital is pushing exclusive breast-feeding for new moms.

Medical research already shows breast-feeding promotes nutrition, extra antibodies to help protect the baby from diseases and helps bond mother and baby. But, Wesley Medical Centers wants to take breast-feeding to a new level.

At Wesley, if a baby is born healthy and full term, and the mother plans on nursing, the medical staff are pushing for the new mom to breast-feed exclusively during her hospital stay. This way the baby doesn’t rely on other supplements and depends solely on his mother’s milk for nutrition.

Mirna, Lactation Nurse says, “it's important for the baby to get off to a good start, and that has many benefits and less likelihood of early weaning"

Lactation nurses recommend breast-feeding your baby exclusively for the first six months.

But, parenting experts say remember breast-feeding can be difficult for some new mom’s, so don’t feel guilty if you can’t nurse your baby. Just doing your best to be a good mom is all you can ask.
