The city of Manhattan and Kansas State University can claim a victory over the city of Lawrence and the University of Kansas.

The Manhattan/Kansas State group won a $100,000 prize in the "university" category of an energy efficiency contest.

The organizers of the Take Charge Challenge announced Monday that Lawrence actually saved the most energy but Manhattan won the
contest based on a per-capita measurement.

The statewide energy contest involved about 275,000 Kansans from 16 communities.

Baldwin City, Colby and Fort Scott were regional winners in the contest. Energy savings were measured through energy efficiency audits and improvements; switching to energy-efficient light bulbs
and programmable thermostats; and community involvement and public education.
