The Kansas Energy Office has received approval from the U.S. Department of Energy to extend deadlines for two programs aimed at promoting home energy audits and energy efficiency improvements.

Under the $100 Energy Audit Program state residents can get an energy audit valued at $500 to $600 for just $100.

The Kansas Corporation Commission said the program initially capped funding at 1,500 audits, but officials removed the cap. The Energy Office is a division of the KCC. The Hutchinson News reports that the agency has extended the $100 audit program through Sept. 30.

The Energy Office also extended the $500 Thermal Envelope Rebate Program through Dec. 31. The rebate applies to "envelope" improvements such as sealing around windows or adding insulation to walls and attics identified in the audit.
