Lawrence will soon offer its first charging station for electric vehicles.

The University of Kansas and an international energy management company are working together to plan and build the charging station.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports that this spring, architectural students will erect a building to house the Center for Design Research. It will be located on the university's west campus at the Chamney Farm property.

The center will focus on developing green technology, including an electric vehicle charging station.

Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, will partner with the university.

The charging station will be able to charge two vehicles at the same time.

The charging station also will allow research on storing energy and possibly selling it to energy companies.
