Finney County economic development officials have begun discussions to possibly bring a $150 million biomass plant to the county.

Eric Depperschmidt, president of the Finney County Economic Development Corp., told board members Wednesday that his group is helping a renewable energy company research possible locations for the plant.

He says the discussions began earlier this month. Depperschmidt declined to release the name of the company.

Depperschmidt says if the plant opens, it could use up to 10,000 acres of crops for biomass production.
