News of several mail facilities and rural post offices closing within weeks is causing concern.
The United States Post Office recently announced plans to close 252 facilities in 2012, in an effort to save $3 billion. The agency is also reviewing whether to shut down 3,700 post office branches.
While several residents will have to wait longer for mail to be delivered, or travel further for services, some people want to know what will happen to their post office boxes.
KAKE’s Jeff Herdon said if a post office shuts down, so will PO boxes. Residents and businesses with a PO box will have to use a home address for delivery, or transfer the PO box to a different facility.
The USPS is recommending closing six Kansas mail processing facilities, and 134 post offices as the agency reorganizes.
