Good Question - Cell Phone Networks
A viewer asks, “What’s the difference between a non-3G network, 3G and 4G networks? Is one really better? And is one service better than another?” Good question. Reporter: Jeff HerndonEmail Address: jeff.herndon@kake.com |

Actually, 4G is already here and has been for some time. Sprint has WiMAX deployed in a few cities such as Baltimore and is deploying in 10 more before the end of the year. Verizon is slated to deploy its 4G network using LTE in the 1st half of 2010. Voice and data are currently sent over seperate parts of the wireless spectrum, so good data coverage does not mean good voice coverage. So the no, not really in the article should really be no, not at all since they are completely seperate and even use seperate transmitters on the towers. Unlike WiMAX which uses an IP based network for the data, and a seperate one for the voice, LTE will actually combine the two and bring it under a single 100% IP based network.
