I've touched on this once before but with Christmas behind us, many of you may have unspent gift cards in your dresser drawer.
Now you have a few years to use those cards before they expire, but sometimes you get a card from a store that you just don't want. So you're stuck with it unless you re-gift it, right? Wrong. There are companies that will buy that card from you.
There is a catch. You won't get full face value but hey, the company has to get it's cut.
Here are the top 5 gift card sites to sell your unwanted cards according to US News and World Report.
1. Plastic Jungle (www.plasticjungle.com)
This site allows you sell you gift card for cash, Amazon credit or PayPal payment. There has to be a minimum balance of $25 on the card, and this site pays up to 92% on the value of the card.
2. Card Pool (www.cardpool.com)
Again, there must be a minimum $25 balance on the card. The site pays in cash or in Amazon gift cards. At the site you select the merchant, enter the amount and Card Pool will make you an offer. If you accept, you can either mail the card or enter the code oline.
3. Gift Card Rescue (www.giftcardrescue.com)
This site will buy gift cards from more than 300 merchants. You can get cash or an Amazon gift card. With this one, if you chose the Amazon card you'll get 5% more on your payout offer.
4. ABC Gift Cards (www.abcgiftcards.com)
This site will guarantee to beat the price of any other major online gift card exchange site. First, you go online to fill out a form. You'll get a call back within 48 hours. The transaction has to be completed over the phone, not online. But again, the site will beat any other site's price by one to three percent. And if you're paid by PayPal, the site will reimburse you for any PayPal fees.
5. Gift Card Castle (www.giftcardcastle.com)
Unlike the other sites, this one only requires a $20 minimum balance on the card. However, it requires a $25 order minimum. So if you have a $20 balance on one card, you'll need to combine it with another card that has a $20 minimum. First-time users are required to use PayPal. After that, your payment can be by PayPal or check.
By the way, these sites also sell gift cards at a discount. So if you're looking to shop early for next Christmas, you might want to check it out.
