  • When removing skin from chicken, use a paper towel. This makes it easier to grab the skin. Pull and it comes right off.

  • Try using a pizza cutter to cube bread for croutons, bread pudding, stuffing, etc. The job becomes much faster!

  • To get onion or garlic odor off our hands, rub your hands on a stainless steel utensil under running water. A spoon is the easiest to use.

  • Now that it is grilling season, try marinating chicken in lemonade for a good lemon flavor. Margarita mix without the alcohol works well too.

  • To brown ground beef or turkey, break up meat and cover with water. Simmer for about 15 minutes, then drain. No grease and no messy pan to clean.

  • Sweeten heavy cream by whipping 1/3 cup powdered sugar into 1 cup of cream. If preparing whipped cream the day before use, increase powdered sugar to ½ cup per 1 cup of cream. The cream will be stiffer but will be the perfect consistency on the following day.

  • When roasting whole roasts, pre-heat oven to 100 degrees more than desired cooking temperature for 1 hour. Then turn to desired temperature and cook roast. This ensures even heat to the meat.

  • When grilling steaks, cook an extra steak or two to medium rare. Slice and sauté with seasonings for great fajitas a few days later.

  • This sounds simple but how many times has it caught you: Make sure you have all the ingredients for your recipe before you start mixing items together.

  • To create an easy all-purpose seasoning, mix garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and salt in a clean spice jar.

  • As a healthy alternative in salads, mix two parts fat-free sour cream with one part real mayonnaise. The taste is better and lower in fat.

  • Prepare meals with a friend or family member. It is a lot more fun!

  • Visit with an experienced cook and ask them to share techniques before we become a society of conveniences. Have you tried one of your mother’s or grandmother’s recipes lately?

  • For an easy change in meatloaf flavor, add one packet of taco seasoning (either hot or mild).
