A Wichita organization is sending a unique type of clinic overseas.

Hospitals of Hope will ship a portable hospital built here in Wichita to Southern Sudan.

The small hospitals are made entirely out of retrofitted shipping containers. The containers hold everything needed to bring advanced medical care to a disaster area or Third World Country.

It's called Clinic In A Can. Hospitals of Hope takes the large containers used to ship items overseas and spends months retrofitting them with equipment to turn them into high tech medical clinics.

Hospitals of Hope has built 10 Clinics In A Can over the past eight years. Six are being used in Haiti in the wake of last year's devastating earthquake.

The Clinic In A Can is built entirely in Wichita, with local labor and supplies.

The group relies on donations of used or unneeded equipment from local hospitals and businesses to fill the clinics.

To continue building the clinics, Hospitals Of Hope needs donations of basic building supplies, and medical supplies.
