The six-story tall, 600 pound IMAX screen was hoisted up at the West 21st Street Warren Theatres today.
"It's probably the largest you'll see a digital cinema today," said Phillip Grider, IMAX installation supervisor from Atlanta. "You guys are definitely right on the cusp of the largest digital IMAX system for sure."
The multimillion dollar project is being paid through some revenue bonds the city issued earlier this year.
"This is going to bring in a lot of tax dollars, lots of tourism dollars. I would suggest that this would be a bigger draw than a lot of the attraction that are out there right now," said Bill Warren, Warren Theatres CEO.
Adult IMAX ticket prices will cost an extra two dollars and an extra one dollar for children. An adult evening IMAX 3D movie will cost $15, compared to $13 for a non-IMAX 3D movie.
The opening IMAX feature is Tron Legacy 3D and will begin showing at noon on Dec. 17. Tickets are now on sale here.
