Sedgwick County authorities are searching for the person or persons who stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment from a garage, outside of Derby.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning at a home near 55th Street South and Northview Trail, in southeast Sedgwick County. Investigators said someone forced the overhead garage door open.

The homeowners and their four children were inside the house sleeping, unaware that burglars were in their garage.

Items stolen include power tools, pots and pans, chainsaw, camera, camcorder, guitar, iPod, iPad, and computer. The stolen items are valued at nearly $12,000.

The homeowner were temporarily storing those items in the garage while they were in the middle of remodeling their kitchen. Some of the items taken included tools and trinkets owned by the victim's deceased father and uncle.

"They didn't just steal my stuff, they stole memories of my dad. I'm extremely angry about that and no amount of insurance money could ever compensate for those things," said James Bell, victim.

If you have any information about this crime, call investigators at (316) 660-5300.
