In the middle of a pot bust, Salina police are forced to call out the bomb squad after they find explosives including a pipe bomb.
When officers were searching a Salina house for a marijuana growing operation, they found something much more dangerous and had to evacuate four houses around it.
Inside the home's garage, police found several bags of powder including flash powder which Lt. Jim Norton with the Salina Police Department says is extremely sensitive. Static electricity alone is enough to set it off.
They also found a pipe bomb. It wasn't loaded, but Lt. Norton says the bomb squad erred on the side of caution.
"The four houses directly around the garage where the pipe bomb was found were evacuated just in case the pipe bomb happened to detonate while it was being moved,” Lt. Norton said.
Police arrested the homeowner 34 year old Ryan White.
Lt. Norton says they don't know what White planned on doing with the explosives.
White was booked into the Saline County Jail on multiple drug charges and criminal possession of an explosive device.
