Earlier this year, the state of Kansas gave one resident $516,000. It was money he didn't even know he had. Not everyone will be that lucky, but they won't know until they turn out for the Unclaimed Property Returns Tour.

State Treasurer Ron Estes is traveling to each of the 105 counties in Kansas in hopes of giving away more than $230 million worth of unclaimed property. It can be anything from unclaimed utility deposits from college, old bank accounts or your grandparents' old safe deposit box.

Estes says the tour has been successful so far.

"One of the things we're doing now, is going out to each county and having a stop and visiting and encouraging folks to come by and check for themselves or family members. we're finding folks at every stop we've been at," said Estes.

Thursday's stops include Butler and Harvey counties, but you don't have to visit the tour in person to find out if you've hit the jackpot. Kansans who can't make it to the events may call the State Treasurer's office at 1-800-432-0386 or log onto www.KansasCash.com to search for unclaimed property.
