The National Fathers Day Council will hold a "Father of the Year" awards dinner in Wichita Thursday night. The dinner is a a fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association. Three men are being honored, and chances are you may know one of them.

At last months kick off party, the three honorees for father of the year were announced. They are chosen based on how they serve as a role model for their children, to help make a positive influence in the community. All three honorees have been affected by diabetes.

Dr. Richard Guthrie is one of this years honorees. He is also director of Mid-America Diabetes Associates, and a diabetic himself.

Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer is one of the three fathers of the year. Mayor brewer also lives with diabetes.

Shawn Lancelot, a father of three, another honoree. He is also president of Bank Of America in Wichita. His little niece is afflicted with childhood diabetes.

The first annual father of the year ceremony is Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Downtown.
