This week's fire at College Hill Elementary has the school district scrambling to get a vacant building ready for 475 students on Monday.
When the school district opened back up Bryant Elementary, which has sat vacant for a year, we're told it was completely empty and dirty. Crews have their hands full trying to turn the building back into a fully functional school.
They have been busy checking utilities, cleaning, and bringing in supplies and furniture.
USD 259's Division Director of Facilities says usually when they open up a school, they have months not days to do it.
“We opened a number of new schools last summer and we had the whole summer, we had the whole three months which is what you would anticipate and expect,” USD 259 Division Director of Facilities Julie Hedrick said.
Open House for College Hill students is scheduled for Sunday, August 18 at Bryant Elementary and school starts the next day.
