Unemployed residents and employers seeking candidates in South Central Kansas have a new new one-stop workforce center in Winfield.
An official celebration took place Wednesday at the new Cowley Workforce Center, 108 E. 12th Ave. The Cowley Workforce Center at Strother Field was closed due to budget constraints in 2009.
Officials say that the 19,000 laid off workers in South Central will benefit from this new permanent location.
"Those lay offs affect everyone and we're definitely seeing those people. Job seekers that need the services here, instead of driving all the way to our office in Sumner County or in Wichita. We needed a local presence," said Kimberly Cronister, Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas Communications Coordinator.
The Center will provide assessment tools, resume writing and interviewing workshops, and job search assistance. Most services at the Center are available at no cost.
The Center is open Monday and Wednesday, 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m.
